Marjatta Metsovaara's beloved prints re-enter production

Marjatta Metsovaara's beloved prints re-enter production

Vallila is delighted to announce that its spring/summer 2016 collection will include a number of prints created decades ago by beloved Finnish textile artist Marjatta Metsovaara (1927–2014). Six of her prints will re-enter production in a total of 15 different colour schemes on cloth.

Aalto, Elle, Liliana, Miranda, Päivänkakkara (Daisy) and Valmu (Poppy). Prints that bring back memories – of a treasured childhood, a first home, mother’s dining table or grandma’s house. These prints are part and parcel of Finnish textile art history, and their creator, textile artist Marjatta Metsovaara, ranks among the great names of Finnish fabric design. Vallila will introduce the six named prints in a total of 15 colour schemes as part of its spring/summer 2016 collection.

A masterful user of colours and an iconic print designer of her era

Marjatta Metsovaara’s roots lay in the family-owned textile company where she developed a passion for design in childhood and which started her on the path to a life-long career in fabric design. She graduated from the Institute of Industrial Arts in 1949 where she had demonstrated insight and innovation in the way she used materials; under the post-war austerity conditions, she made ingenious use of paper, for example, in her textiles.

New Wallpaper Collection: Horisontti

New Wallpaper Collection: Horisontti

The 11 designs in Vallila's wallpaper collection Horisontti are inspired by the fabrics of Vallila's AW15 collection, and give you a view of the horizon. The wallpapers in the Horisontti collection create a special ambience in any room: of far-away things, of forest whispers, of the rush of the wind, and of the hum of your imagination. The wallpapers of this collection seem to take interior design to a new dimension, and bring timelessness, trends, or unpredictability to a room, depending on the pattern you choose. The horizon divides a landscape into earth, water, and sky. When you are gazing at the horizon, you can sprinkle some dreams on your reality, as those dreams meet their limits. Vallila's designers Tanja Orsjoki, Matleena Issakainen, Saara Kurkela and Riina Kuikka have aimed for the horizon: both from the top, and from such places where the horizon is not visible. The horizon provides destinations, boundaries, dimensions, proportions. The collection includes 11 new wallpaper designs, with each design available in up to 4 colours. In this wallpaper collection, the textile designs familiar from Vallila's AW15 collection “Huipulla” have been fitted to cover large wall surfaces, or to be spectacular eye-catchers, bringing both serenity and interest to spaces.
